A curriculum for ambitious learning

  • A basic tenet of In2Books is that all learners are capable of deep learning. The In2Books curriculum nurtures analytic learners. Its learning approach fosters reading, writing, and thinking core skills, deeply and seamlessly embedded in subject matter study. This research-based curriculum has evolved over the past seven years by closely working with hundreds of teachers and thousands of students in urban public schools.
  • The curriculum has been designed to complement, reinforce, and extend, not replace, core curricula. It has been used successfully in conjunction with basal reading curricula and in classrooms with trade book centered literacy curricula.
  • The In2Books Learning Principles
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving are essential to learning
    • Deep learning requires embedding literacy instruction into subject-matter instruction.
    • Authentic experiences foster intrinsic motivation and engagement in learning.
    • Learning is both a socially shared and individually constructed enterprise.
    • Adult mentors motivate students to try harder and achieve more
    • The specifics of learning are unique to each individual, but learning progresses through common, identifiable stages of development.
    • Teachers help learners progress in competence by drawing upon a variety of assessment data (informal and formal) to plan appropriate next-step instruction.
